480,823. Variable - speed gearing. CAVALLO, F. July .31, 1936, No. 2432/37. Divided out of 480,789. [Class 80 (ii)] A shaft 48 drives a shaft 57 through differential gearing 52, 55, 56 the action of which is modified by a parallel-disc variable gear 1, 2. The disc 1 has an annular groove accommodating ratchets consisting of segments 6 with wedge-shape recesses in which rollers 7 are located. On the segments 6 are pins 8 carrying rollers 9, engaging radial grooves 10 in the disc 2. The spur wheel 53 of the differential is driven from the shaft 48 through wheels 49, 46, and shaft 42, and wheel 46 drives a wheel 45 on a shaft 40, which is rotatably mounted in a lever 41 pivoted on shaft 42, and carries the disc 1. The lever 41 can'be displaced to vary the eccentricity of the disc 1 by a worm 44 and segment 43. The disc 2 is connected to the differential sun-wheel 52, the planet 55 of which is loose on the carrier 53 and gears with a wheel 56 on shaft 57.
