Abstract

475,502. Variable - speed planetary gearing. LA BARRE DE NANTEUIL, C. DE. May 18, 1936, No. 14034. Convention date, May 21, 1935. [Class 80 (ii)] A planetary train yields a continuous speed variation when an eccentrically wabbling boss 20 is braked by applying a brake 25 to an annulus 21 journalled at 22 concentrically on a driving- shaft 1 and having an eccentric surface 191 transmitting the braking to the boss 20. The boss 20 is integral with a gear cluster 15a, 17 which turns loosely upon an eccentric 18 rigid with the loose carrier 9 of triple planet gears 4, 10, 14 and 5, 11, 15. The gears 4, 5 mesh with a driving sun pinion 2. The gears 10, 11 are equal and mesh with a sun gear 12 fast on a driven sleeve 13. The gears 14, 15 mesh with the gears 15a and 17 and are such that these gearing pairs are equal in ratio. The result is that if the shaft 13 be imagined stationary, the cluster 15a, 17 would wabble round without rotating on its own axis, a characteristic proportioning. In a modified gear train, the driven element is a planet carrier which is connected by drag links to the eccentric boss which wabbles inside the braked eccentric ring.
