Abstract
1,274,171. Variable speed gears. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. 19 April, 1971 [2 Feb., 1970], No. 20773/71. Heading F2D. A variable speed epicyclic gear I comprises a shaft 3 (e.g. an output shaft) surrounded by a hollow shaft 1 (e.g. input) rigidly connected to a gear 4 meshing with a planet gear 8 meshing with a ring gear 11 which can be braked (e.g. by a brake C), and a carrier 5, 7 clutchable (e.g. at E) to the shaft 1 and able to be braked (e.g. by a band brake D and an overrunning brake #) pivotally mounting the gear 8 which is rigidly connected to a coaxial gear 9 which meshes with an externally toothed gear 12. The gear 12 may drive the input of a second variable speed epicyclic gear II. The clutch E may be operated hydraulically, pneumatically or electrically.
