Abstract
562,405. Variable - speed gearing. NORTH, L. C., and NORTH, F. Jan. 16, 1943, No. 849. [Class 80 (ii)] A variable-speed epicyclic gearing comprises a driving shaft A having a sun-gear A <1> meshing with one gear B of a compound planet pinion B, B<1>, the gear B<1> of which meshes with a sungear C<1> fixed to a driven shaft C. Gear B meshes with a toothed annulus J<1> fixed to a toothed annulus J gearing with planet pinions H carried by a cage H<1> fixed to the driving shaft A. The driven shaft C has radial arms carrying bevel pinions D meshing with a bevel gear E and with a smaller bevel gear F. The latter is in one with a sun-pinion G meshing with the pinions H. The movement of the bevel gear E is controlled by a brake E<1> to produce varying speeds of the shaft C. The speed will vary automatically with the resistance on the driven shaft. The invention is applicable to the drive of aero engine superchargers.
