Abstract

17,691. Ruckstuhl, J. J. July 27. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing is arranged with a view to returning to its source power taken from an element that is braked. Planetary gears F, E secured together and carried by a casing C mesh respectively with a gear G fast on a driving-shaft A and with a gear H upon a loose sleeve I. The sleeve I carries a friction cone K adapted to engage a drum L fast on the shaft A. The casing C being secured to a driven shaft B tends to lag behind, so that the gear H and cone K tend to rotate faster than the drum L. The speed is regulated by allowing the cone K to slip upon the drum L, and the braking action tends to accelerate the driving-shaft. In a modification, the casing C is loose, and the shaft B is driven through an additional gear pair.
