Abstract
14,114. Pullcar Motor Co., and Bailey, R. W. H. June 19. Variable-speed and reversing gearing.-In change-speed gearing of the type in which two sets of epicyclic gear trains are connected by a sleeve carrying a power-transmitting element, the driving-shaft 1 carries a fast sun-pinion 15 meshing with a planet-wheel 16 of one set, and a fast sun-pinion 27 meshing with a planet-wheel 25 of the other set. Sun-wheels 19, 29 meshing with planet - wheels 18, 28 of the two sets respectively are connected by a sleeve 11 carrying the driven element 12 of the gear. The wheels 16, 18 are solid with others 20, which mesh with a sun-wheel 21 connected to a sleeve 22 upon a feather &c. on which there slides a cone clutch 4. The wheels 16 &c. rotate loosely on spindles 17 carried by a casing 2 which has a cone clutch 24 adapted to be engaged by the clutch 4. The wheels 25, 28 are loose upon spindles 26 carried by a casing 3. The fast speed is a solid drive obtained by thrusting the clutch 4 into engagement with the clutch 24 against the action of a spring 30, by cam-levers 9. The second speed is obtained by holding the casing 3 against rotation by means of a brake 6 when the drive takes place through the gears 27, 25, 28, 29. On holding the casing 2 by a brake 5, a third speed is obtained through the gears 15, 16, 18, 19. Reversal is effected by holding the wheel 21 against rotation by applying a brake 7 to the part 4.
