Abstract

235,639. Brooke, H. L. March 19, 1924. Variable-speed gearing. - An automaticallyvariable driving pair comprises centrifugal masses e, f on one element, which present a wave-like peripheral surface e', f<1> to rollers g interposed between the masses and a driven element h. This pair may be a variable-speed gear or may be used to control an epicyclic train. Thus stopped planet gears o, p carried by a driven shaft q may mesh with a sun gear n on the driving-shaft m and with a loose gear d, respectively. The masses e, f are carried by the gear d, and the member h by a drum t against which a disc s upon the planet-carrier is spring-pressed. Reversed driving is stated to be produced when element h is held against rotation.
