Abstract

548,975. Variable-speed gearing. CLARK, W. E. N. April 29, 1941, No. 5559. [Class 80 (ii)] Spider arms 3a on a driving shaft 1 support planetary pinions 5 meshing with a sun gear 6 fixed to a driven shaft 7. The axles 4 of the pinions 5 have cranks 8 carrying a roller 9 engaging a slot 10 in a mass member 11, 12. The latter is slidable on radial arms 14 fixed to the spider arms 3a and it can oscillate in the plane of rotation. One end of the member 11, 12, has a balance weight 21 and at the other end is a roller 18 engaging a cam groove in a plate 20 fixed to the driven shaft 7. In operation the drive is transmitted to the shaft 7 partly through the rollers 18 and groove and partly through the gears 5, 6. The arms 14 may be curved.
