Abstract

194,593. Thomas, H. D. May 17, 1922. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing comprises a stepped bevel train controlled through one of its elements. Bevel-gears 1, 2 secured to aligned driving and driven shafts A, B mesh with the steps 13a, 13b of planet gears supported on a loose carrier 3. A third loose bevel-gear 14 is connected by a shaft C to means whereby its speed can be varied, and so the velocity-ratio of the train as a whole can be controlled. In modifications, the carrier may be the controlled element, or a transmission element. Specification 20639/91 is referred to.
