July 28, 1927, Variable-speed epicyclic gearing. - A mining- machine includes variable-speed gearing 44 comprising a driving sun-gear 43 engaging planet gears 51 supported by a cage 50 and meshing with an internal gear 46 in a casing controlled by a band-brake 65, further planet gears 52, secured to, and differing in size from, the planet gears 51, engaging an internal gear 54; the internal gear 54 and the hub 62 of the cage 50 of the planetary gears have clutch teeth 60, 61, for connection altemativedy through a clutch 56 with the gear 58 to drive the latter at low and high speed respectively.
