Abstract

151,163. Rouquet, C. Oct. 8, 1919. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing; balance gearing. - Two-speed epicyclic gearing for motor-vehicles is combined with a friction clutch and with balance gearing. A hollow driving-shaft 1 carries a spur gear 10 meshing with stepped planet gears 9, which also mesh with a gear 11 on a hollow shaft 12 secured to the balance-gear case 14. The carrier 7 of the gears 9 carries a brake drum 8 and a friction clutch member 6. When a clutch member 5 upon the shaft 1 engages the member 6, the gearing turns solid for high speed. when the clutch 5, 6 is disengaged and the drum 8 is held, the shaft 12 is driven at low speed. The casing 14 carries a brake drum 15, and the differentially-driven axles 19, 20 pass respectively through the shafts 12, 1 and through an extension 14<1> of the casing 14.
