Abstract
26,290. Weller, J. Nov. 11. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing comprises planetary pinions C, C<1>, which engage together in pairs within the body of a driven member B, which may be the hub of a motor - vehicle driving-wheel. The ends of each pair of pinions project from the member B, one on one side and one on the other, and engage gears D, E, respectively, mounted on extensions of the member B, or directly on a fixed central spindle A. Power is imparted to the gear D, which is adapted to be connected by a friction clutch F to the member B for the high speed. For the low speed, the clutch F is disengaged, and the gear E is held against rotation by a brake G.
