238,423. Rushen, P. C., (Turner, E. H.). Nov. 18, 1924. Variable-speed gearing is rendered automatic by the action of a fly-wheel C<2> supported on a transverse spindle C<1> so as to move end-over-end as well as to rotate on its axis. This spindle C<1> is supported in a member C, which is connected by epicyclic gearing both to the driving-member A<1> and to the driven shaft B. The fly-wheel C<2> is also spun on its axis directly by a gear pair c<1>, b<1> from the driven shaft B. Planet pinions A<2> carried by the member A<1> mesh with gear teeth on the spindle-carrier C and also with a gear member b fast on the shaft B. In a modification, two fly-wheels C<2> connected by peripheral gear teeth are employed.
