Variable-speed epicyclic gearing rendered automatic by a fly-wheel 15 loosely mounted on the driving or driven shaft and secured to a sun or like gear 34, as described in the parent Specification, is modified by the fly-wheel being geared to turn in the same direction as these shafts. In the arrangement shown, planet gears 27, 28, 29 are mounted in sets of three on a loose spider- 26. The gears 27 mesh with a sun gear 22 secured to a load sleeve 24. The gears 29 mesh with the sun gear 34, which turns in the same directions as the elements 22 ,25. In a modification, spur planet gears meshing together in threes are used.
