Abstract
151,013. Waldenmaier, W. Sept. 15, 1919, [Convention date.]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Variable-speed gearing comprises an epicyclic train controlled by disk-and-roller and worm gearing. A wheel 3 secured to a driving-shaft 2 has bevel-teeth driving an idle disk 4, and internal spur teeth meshing with planetary gears 27. The gears 27, which are carried by a disk 29 secured to a sleeve 21, mesh also with a sun gear 26 fast upon a driven shaft 22. An idle wormwheel 19 meshes with a worm 20 fast on the sleeve 21, and with a worm 17 slidable on a parallel shaft 8. The shaft 8 carries a friction clutch member 16 and a feathered friction gear 7, which slides in contact with the disk 4. In action, when the gear 7 is near the centre of the disk 4, the worm and disk 29 are stationary, the worm 17 being thrust into engagement with the clutch 16. The gear 26 and shaft 22 are driven reversely at top speed. As the gear 7 is moved to the right, the worm gearing moves, allowing the disk 29 to turn, so that the shaft 22 slows down. If the disk 29 turns too fast, the wheel 19 causes the worm 17 to move out of engagement with the clutch 16, allowing the gear 7 to roll without slipping. The gear 7 is controlled by a hand crank 15.
