Abstract
167,413. Cotal, J. Sept. 30, 1920. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing of the kind comprising planet pinions 10 - - 14 carried by a fly-wheel 4 on a driving-shaft 1 and meshing with a sun gear 24 secured to a driven shaft 2 and with sun gears 20 - - 23. adapted to bo held by brakes, is controlled by electromagnetic brakes 70 - - 73 fixed to a frame 3. The gears 20 - - 23 are connected by flexible plates 50 - - 53 to magnetic annuli 60 - - 63 adapted to be attracted and stopped alternatively by the magnets 70 - - 73. Two of the flexible plates carry magnetic clutch elements 65, 75 by means of which a solid high-speed drive is effected.
