Abstract

Variable-speed epicyclic gearing comprises a sun gear 11 on a driving-shaft 9, planet gears 18 on a carrier 13, which is driven, and a hollow gear 24 having internal teeth 22 meshing with the gears 18, and external teeth meshing with a controllable pinion 47 upon a countershaft 43. A duplicate train 10, 19, 23, 44 may be provided, as shown in Fig. 3, to yield a different range of speeds. The pinions 47, 44 can be braked alternatively by a sliding double cone 48. As applied to a motor cycle, power is received and transmitted through sprockets 26. 28 respectively, and a kick starter 38 is provided.
