177,120. Lancashire Dynamo & Motor Co., Ltd., and McLeod, R. S. Dec. 8, 1920. Reversing - gearing suitable for planing- machines comprises stepped planet gears P, Q, Fig. 1, carried by a driven shaft B and meshing with a pinion a<1> fast upon a driving-shaft A. Driving in one direction or the other is obtained by holding with a brake alternatively an internally-toothed ring D and a sun gear C. A modification is described in detail in which the ring D and gear C both mesh with the step Q. A modification with triple planets P, Q, R is shown in Fig. 3. In one Provisional Specification is described an arrangement with triple planet gears in which the planet carrier is one of the elements adapted to be held by a brake.
