355,895. Reversing-gearing. ROYCE, SIR F. H., Nightingale Road, Derby. July 12, 1930, No. 21167. [Class 80 (ii).] Epicyclic reversing-gearing comprises a sun wheel m slidably spliced to the driving &c., shaft c and carrying with it, as it slides, planet gears m<1> in a carrier m<2> supported on both sides of the sun wheel on axial extensions o. The planets m<1> are in sliding engagement with an internally-t o o t h e d wheel m<4> secured to the driven &c. shaft d. When the gear unit is slid to the right as by a striker n<2>, a clutch ring n on a sungear extension engages a clutch ring m<7> on shaft d effecting a solid forward drive. When the gear unit is slid to the left, a clutch ring m<8> on the carrier m<2> engages a fixed toothed ring l whereby the shaft d is driven reversely through the train at reduced speed. This reversing-gear is described in combination with change-speed epicyclic gearing forming the subject-matter of Specification 356,094. Specifications 350,114 and 351,121 also are referred to.
