Abstract

319,631. Shaw Infinitely Variable Gear Co., Ltd., Shaw, J. S., and Heap, W. June 20, 1928. Variable-speed gearing of the type described in Specification 310,064 is modified as to the arrangement of epicyclic gearing which is variably controlled, and the variable gearing for effecting the control is of the interpenetrating disc type. The train necessarily comprises an eccentric or wabbling gear E connected by an oldham or like coupling F to another element. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, sun gear a<1> is fast on driving- shaft A, internal gear b<1> is fast on driven shaft B, and the variable control is applied to the carrier C of planet gears D. The wabble gear E meshes with internal teeth on carrier C, and the coupling F makes connection with fixed casing G. In a modification, the internal gear of the main epicyclic train is the controlled element, and that is connected through the coupling to the wabble gear. The variable gearing driving the shaft e<2>, Fig. 1, of control-eccentric e<1> comprises a train of discs S, R driving a countershaft, not shown, and, a train Q, P driving from the countershaft, the speed of the ultimately driven shaft 13 being varied by moving that countershaft tdwards and from the axis of the gearing.
