Abstract
A hydromechanical transmission comprises two sets of planetary gears 27, 28 on a common carrier 30 fast with the output shaft 22, and a hydrostatic transmission comprising a variable displacement unit 35 driven by the input shaft 21 and a fixed displacement unit 36 driving a sun 25, the planets 27 meshing with the sun and with the planets 28 and the latter meshing with a ring gear 29 controlled by a brake B and with a sun 26 clutchable at F to the input shaft. Selective operation of the clutch and brake provides two modes of operation, and the addition of a further clutch controlling drive of the ring gear by the input provides for a third mode. The hydrostatic units may be coaxial with the planetaries and input and output shafts, as shown. Alternatively, the hydrostatic unit may be off-set, and the other components, including the further clutch, coaxial. <IMAGE>
