Abstract

281,296. Schauer, A., and Wolff, E., (trading as Evolutor Ing. A. Schauer & E. Wolff Handelsges.). Nov. 23, 1926, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid]. Variable-speed and reversing friction gearing. -Friction gearing is rendered operative by closing a tightening ring such as 7, Fig. 7, upon a flexible tread member 5 which thus engages frictionally with rollers 4. In another form, coned tightening rings 13, 13', Fig. 5, are drawn together to constrict a spring tread 6 upon rollers 4<11>. These treads are flat spiral bands. A change-speed and reversing gear is shown. A driving-shaft I carries secured thereto friction sun gears 3, 3<1> and a toothed clutch disc 11. A sleeve 8 loose on the shaft carries planet rollers 4 of the first train, like rollers 4' of the second train, the central gear 3<11> of the reversing train, and a toothed clutch disc 12. The rollers 4<11> of the reversing train are carried by a fixed web 9. An internally-toothed clutch 10 is feathered on a driven shaft 2. To effect a one-toone drive, the clutch 10 is engaged with disc 11. First reducer speed is effected by tightening a screw 19, Fig. 1, which causes the sleeve 8 to be driven. The clutch 10 is moved into engagement with disc 12. The third speed is effected by tightening the tread 5<1> of the second train keeping members 10, 12 in engagement. To effect reversed driving, the sleeve 8 is still driven and the clutch 10 is moved to engage the toothed periphery of ring 13<1>, which rotates constantly in the reversed direction. The tread 6, Fig. 5, has a doubly coned periphery and the tightening rings 13, 13<1> are drawn together by screws 14. The clutch 10 and the tightening rings 7 are operated by levers external to casing 31.
