Abstract

7038. Doumet de Siblas, Edmond Marie, Marquis, and Cottray, L. A. March 21. Variable-speed and reversing gearing.-In variable-speed epicyclic gearing, a ring is employed having internal and external sets of teeth respectively engaged by planet pinions carried by disks which can be alternatively held against rotation to put into operation different trains of gearing driving in the same direction. This ring g, which is secured to the driven shaft b, meshes internally with a pinion d carried by a disk e, and meshes externally with a pinion j carried by a disk k. The pinion d meshes also with a central pinion c secured to the driving-shaft a. The pinion j meshes also with an internally-toothed ring i secured to the disk e. When a brake n is applied to a drum l fastened to the disk e, the pinion d rotates about a fixed centre, and the ring g is driven at reduced speed oppositely to the shaft a. When a brake o is applied to a drum m fastened to the disk k, both the pinions d, j become operative, and the ring g is driven at further reduced speed in the same direction as before. Reversed driving is effected by locking all the parts together by a clutch 3. The pinion d is in this case prevented from rotating idly by a companion gear t meshing with a gear u secured to the clutch 3.
