Variable-speed epicyclic (gearing.-An epicyclicgearing comprises a special arrangement and combination of parts consisting of a crank shaft A having fixed thereto a planet-carrying disc D arranged between two sun wheels J, V, the sun wheel V being connected to the chain pinion U for the final drive, while the wheel J is fixed to the casing of the gear, which is utilized as a brake drum to apply a band brake X in the plane of the sun wheel to fix the latter to give an epicyclic drive, the hub of the casing also being furnished with teeth L co-operating with other teeth on a sliding dog clutch to lock the sun wheel for a direct drive.
