Abstract
634,969. Gear casing. CAMPBELL, J., and PATERSON, T. Jan. 23, 1948, No. 2151. [Class 80 (i)] A gear casing and cover plate, a, a<1>, for a reduction gear having driving and driven gears g<1>, c<1>, and an intermediate gear p are formed to enable the driving shaft g to be mounted in any position relative to the driven shaft c so that the casing may be adapted for gearing having different distances between the driving and driven shafts. The plate and casing have corresponding extended thickened parts l, j, m, in which may be machined a hole for the bearing f<1> and a hole k to accommodate the clutch h contained in the housing e bolted on to the casing a<1>. The thickened parts l, arcuate about the axis of the shaft c, allow suitable positioning of the bearings of the intermediate wheel p. The bearing b is in thickened positions d. The bearings are retained by discs q and rings q<1>.
