Abstract

599,654. Gear pumps. SLACK, H. A. Oct. 3, 1945, No. 25672, [Class 110 (ii)] In a gear pump, suitable for use as a metering pump in the manufacture of artificial silk, one of the gears runs in a pocket which is larger than the gear, the latter being mounted for rotation on a member eccentric with the pocket so that the gear is in direct sealing contact with the pump casing while the eccentric member is angularly adjustable about the centre of the pocket to vary the depth of mesh of the gear with another gear while maintaining the sealing contact. The pump body comprises a casting to which is bolted three plates of hardened alloy steel, the central one of which is formed with circular pockets 7, 8. The driven gear 10 is journalled upon a disc 14, which is integral with an adjusting shaft 15 eccentric therewith, but concentric with the pocket 8. According to the Provisional Specification, the driving gear is instead mounted in eccentric bushes.
