Abstract
605,756. Rotary pumps or engines. HUGHES, C. Jan. 4, 1946, No. 336. [Class 110 (ii)] In a rotary pump (or engine) of the feathering vane type, the width of the working chamber, or chambers 3, in a rotor 1, and the corresponding width of a radial abutment 4, may be varied either manually or automatically. Segmental pistons 5 are rotated in a circular recess 6, in the rotor periphery, by means such as bevel gearing in the space 7, so that the slot S aligns with the,abutment 4 to allow the latter to pass through the slot. The relatively movable parts of the rotor may be actuated hydraulically, the parts 14, 15 of the abutment being shifted through arms 16. Springs 13, which may be adjustable, resist the force moving the rotor halves apart. A damping device may be attached to the rotor. The pump may be used in a power transmission system on a vehicle.
