Abstract

269,617. Silversides, C. N. Dec. 23, 1925. Fixed-abutment type; valves, distributing.-A rotary pump or motor comprises a disc rotor with recesses therein which contain vanes feathering about radial axes. The Figure shows a common casing containing a number of such rotors mounted on a tubular shaft 23 in the interior of which is a fixed shaft 26 formed with cam grooves 29 engaged by crank arms. 38 connected with circular vanes 35. The vanes may be edge on for an angular movement of 120‹ and broadside on for the same angular movement at the opposite part of their path. The abutment in each pump chamber consists of two blocks 40, 41 bolted to the casing. The rotors are each formed of two discs 30, 31. A sliding valve 55 connects one or more of the pumps with common inlet and discharge pipes; any pump not connected has its inlet and discharge ports directly communicating so that the flow is short-circuited. A ball catch 64 retains the valve, operating spindle 62 in position. A pump as above may supply a similar type of motor for power transmission purposes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 117/88; 4430/94; 10816/07, [Class 114, Ships &c., Div. II] ; 16144/11 and 9322/13.
