Abstract
509,372. Rotary engines. GFELLER, F. July 27, 1938, Nos. 22369 and 22370. Convention dates, July 27, 1937, and Dec. 10, 1937. [Class 110 (ii)] The engine or pump has a working chamber 1 formed of spiral turns and an asymmetrically shaped rotor 4 on a shaf 3. The section of the chamber increases gradually from a port 1e to a port 1a. In the rotor is journalled a piston disc 7 on an axle 5 arranged transversely to the axis of the shaft 3. The disc has six radial projections 7a which slide through the working chamber and may be provided with packing rings. When used as an engine, working fluid enters and leaves through ports 1e, 1a respectively. The disc 7 may be driven from the shaft 3 through gearing, and the number of projections 7a may vary. In a modified arrangement, two discs are placed in the rotor with an axle on each side of the shaft 3. The casing and rotor may be cooled. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes an engine having a single spiral chamber and a symmetrical rotor. A modification has a double rotor with a common inlet, two outlets and two piston discs in right- and left-handed spiral chambers. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
