Abstract

432,751. Rotary engines. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AKT.-GES., Friedrichshafen-on-Bodensee, Germany. April 25, 1934, No. 12508. Convention date, April 25, 1933. [Class 110 (ii)] An engine of the intermittent abutment type comprises a rotor 23 revolving at uniform speed with a shaft 26 and carrying bevel gear-wheels 27 upon spindles 25, and discs carrying pairs of pistons 21, 22, operating in two working-chambers separated by the rotor. Gears 28, 29, on the piston discs, mesh with the bevel gears so that during a forward movement of the rotor, one piston disc travels in the same direction at twice the rotor speed, and the other is held stationary by means of a roller, or the like, clutch 30, which prevents a backward movement of a piston disc relatively to the casing. An outer ring 33 of the rotor 23 contains slots 35 which act as inlet ports or exhausts, and co-operate with casing projections 36. Abutments or pistons 20, 20<1>, are carried by the rotor. The engine may be made reversible by alteration of the clutch elements.
