Abstract

436,843. Rotary engines. MOINEAU, R. J. L., 7, Rue Lebouis, Paris. May 1, 1935, No. 12966. Convention date, May 2, 1934. [Class 110 (ii)] A gearing mechanism comprises two or more sets of an engine or compressor of the type illustrated, wherein a rotor 2 has external threads which co-operate with internal threads on an outer stationary casing 1, the latter having one thread in excess of those on the rotor. The axes of the rotor and casing are displaced a distance e from each other. A driving, or driven, shaft 3 is coupled to the rotor by a Cardan shaft 5 or a flexible shaft. The pitches and diameters of the threads may vary as shown, the tapered portion 9 of the rotor rolling and sliding on the surface 8. Inlet and outlet ports 11, 12, or vice versa, are provided. A series of casings 1<a>, Fig. 2, may be joined in line and contain a series of rotors coupled together by cardan or flexible shafts, or by crank-shafts. Balancing is secured by providing one rotor 2<b> of twice the length of each rotor 2<a>, the axes of the rotors being on either side of a mean axis. Fig. 4 shows a series of rotors on a shaft 5 co-operating with external elements supported by flexible members 14, which may be of indiarubber. A number of engines or compressors may be arranged in a circle with the shafts 5 attached to gear-wheels meshing with a central gear on a driven or driving shaft. A further modification describes four sets arranged radially, bevel gearing connecting the shafts 5 with a central shaft. Fluid may flow in series, or in parallel through the sets.
