Abstract

465,194. Rotary engines. WEXLER, L., and WEXLER, M. July 30, 1935, Nos. 21628 and 21629. Void. Convention dates, July 31, 1934 and Jan. 3, 1935. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary engine or pump comprises a rotor 5 having three sliding vanes 8 in slots 6 and extending axially into slots 14 of end rings 10, 11, which rotate with the shaft 4, Extensions 15 on the vanes bear against rings 13 in the stator. Balance weights 22 in drams 20 are provided on the ends of trunnions 26 mounted in the end rings 10, 11, and carry the vanes 8 by means of trunnions 24 in blocks 25 which may slide in slideways 23. Springs may be used in place of the counterweights. When the invention is applied to an internal-combustion engine, fuel is admitted through a rotary valve casing 29, fixed by a plug screwed into a socket 28, and exhausted through a port 30. The casing 29 has two inlet ports 31, 32, controlled by extensions 35 on a rotor 33. Cooling water for the rotor is pumped into a port 44 and leaves through a second port 45. The casing is water-jacketed and the valve casing 29 may also be cooled. The engine may operate on the four-stroke cycle or two-stroke cycle.
