A multi-cylinder hydraulic motor of the outwardlysliding abutment type has the abutment 10, pressed downwards on to the rotors 4, by strong springs 19, to act as brakes when the rotors are to be stopped on cutting off of fluid pressure to the working chambers C. Admission of fluid under pressure to chambers C acts through ducts 22 to lift plungers 18 against the springs 19.
