Abstract

817,361. Electro-hydraulic power units. ELLISTON, E. R. [Representative of ELLISTON, D. E.]. July 13, 1955 [July 13, 1954], No. 20488/54. Class 69 (2). An electro-hydraulic power unit, which may be similar to that described in Specification 657,761, is provided with a valve controlled by-pass between the opposite sides of a piston. The power unit may provide the feed of a machine tool or control the application of a brake. An electric motor 22 drives an impeller 25 which pumps oil from a reservoir 23 into a cylinder 9 to force a piston 38 upwards. Oil above the piston returns to the reservoir through ports 12, 14 and an annular space 11. By-pass ports 28, 29 are controlled by a valve ring 31 to determine the pressure applied beneath the piston. Ring 31 is movable axially of the cylinder by manually operable means so that the ports can be uncovered by a selected amount.
