Abstract
464,097. Rotary engines. KEELAVITE CO., Ltd., and BOOTH, M. B. July 6, 1935, Nos. 8931/37 and 9265 /37. Divided out of 463,931. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary engine or pump comprises a rotor 2 having vanes 4, 5, which rotate in a reverse direction to that of the rotor, as the latter rotates upon a stationary shaft 1. The vane shafts 6, 7, are driven through gears 9, 10, which mesh with a stationary sun-wheel 8 on the shaft, through intermediate gears 11, 12. A rotary liner 19 rotates with the rotor, and has grooves 17, 18, to accommodate the curved peripheries of the vanes. An abutment 16 extends axially from the casing 13, and contains inlet and outlet ports 33, 34. To vary the capacity of the engine or pump the rotor and vanes may be moved axially by means of a lever 40, to telescope the assembly bodily into the sleeve 19, a piston 32 following up the assembly. Fluid balancing of the moving parts is secured through channels 37, 51, 53, and a piston 49 placed eccentrically in a cylinder 50 to secure an opposite pressure to the region of greatest pressure in the working chamber 15. In a modification, two working-chambers are axially displaced, and the gearing 9 ... 12 is placed between. The two sets of vanes are disposed 180‹ out of phase with one another for balancing purposes. The pressure cavity 38, or cylinder 50, may be used as a means of effecting an automatic control of the capacity of the engine, the piston being balanced as by a spring 55, Fig. 1. A hydraulic transmission gear of the type described in Specification 463,931 may be utilized with the present engine.
