Abstract

536,934. Rotary vacuum pumps. BEACH, E. J. April 8, 1940, No. 6337. [Class 110 (ii)] The diametrical, vane 13 is divided into two equal parts, Fig. 4, separated by a shim 23 which can be replaced by a thicker one to compensate for wear. Packing strips 65 in the rotor and vane end packings 22 are subject to the fluid pressure in front of the vane admitted by ports 67, 62. An arcuate inlet port 17 is cut in the stator end wall and co-operates with ports 16 in the vane which communicate with chambers 14 and a series of oblique ports 15. Delivery is through two spring-pressed valves 40, 41 in series. The valve 40, Fig. 5, comprises a valve plate 48, guided by spring-pressed pins 49, and a plate 53 of thin metal guided by pins 53<1>. One end of the working chamber is provided by a disc backed by lubricating oil at atmospheric pressure. Any pressure above atmospheric in the working-chamber displaces the disc and is thereby relieved.
