Abstract

1,087,747. Rotary pumps and motors. A. FEROY. Oct. 12, 1965 [Nov. 9, 1964], No.43207/65. Heading F1F. A rotary hydraulic pump or motor of the sliding vane, multiple abutment type, comprises a rotor 12, Fig. 1, fixed to a shaft 62 journalled in end members 14, 16 formed respectively with inlet' and outlet passages 54, 60 which communicate with annular chambers 38, 40 and which members together with outer end plates 20, 22 form pressure balancing chambers 88, 70. In the case of a motor, pressure liquid supplied to the passage 54 and annular chamber 38 passes through arcuate ports 56 in the member 14 into working chambers 26, 28, Fig. 2, of the motor formed between vanes 32 slidable in radial axially-extending slots 30 in the rotor. Discharge from the working chambers takes place through arcuate ports 58 in the member 16, annular chamber 40 and passage 60. To prevent or at least reduce leakage between the rotor end faces and the adjacent faces of the members 14, 16 due to the outward bowing of the members 14, 16 in the high-pressure areas of the motor, the members 14, 16 are of one piece rigid construction and liquid at supply pressure is admitted through a port (or ports) 82 in the member 14 registering with the bottoms of the vane slots 30 and valve-controlled passages 94, 80 to the pressure balancing chambers 88, 70 to counterbalance the outward bowing of the members 14, 16. At this stage, passages 76, 98 in the members 16, 14 communicating with the low-pressure working chambers are closed by ball valves 78. 102 subjected to the higher-pressure in the balancing chambers. The inner ends of the vanes 32 are cut away at their ends and engaged by arcuate push rods 108, 110 slidable in grooves and sealed where they cross-over by a sealing element 112, Fig. 6, which prevents pressure liquid in the deeper of the two grooves acting on the side face of the rod 110 resulting in consequential reduction in friction between the rods and grooves. Flat springs 118 urge the vanes 32 radially outwards. Operating as a pump the valve-controlled passages 94, 80 are now closed by respective ball valves 96, 84 and the valves 102, 78 whose passages 98, 76 are now associated with the high-pressure discharge side of the pump are unseated.
