Abstract

1374597 Rotary positive-displacement machines SPERRY RAND CORP 25 Nov 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 54761/71 Heading F1F A variable-output double-acting sliding-vane pump, or motor, has a partially-rotatable camring 40 supported by a ring 14 clamped between cheek plates 12, 16, the surface of the cam ring engaged by the vanes 39 of the rotor 36 having a symmetrical ovoidal profile which as indicated in Fig. 6 (not shown) is smoothly stepped in each of the intake and discharge regions. The parts of the profile in the intake regions differ from those in the discharge regions in shape and angular extent. The cam ring is moved circumferentially to change the output by fluid-pressure applied to chambers between lands 44 and pressure-loaded vanes 50. Inlet and outlet ports 22, 24 communicate with the intervane spaces through symmetrically disposed ports in the cheek plates, Figs. 3 to 5 (not shown). A shaft 32 coupled to the rotor by splines 38 contains lubricant passages 35 for bearings 30.
