628,084. Rotary engines and pumps. VICKERS, Inc. Sept. 4, 1947, No. 24386. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1946. [Class 110(ii)] A variable displacement pump or engine comprises a pair of vane-carrying rotors 56 in separate working chambers with a separator disc 62, all being carried on a splined shaft 20, and a rotary control member 80 having teeth meshing with teeth 78 on casing ring 70. The inner surfaces of ring 70 are oval and the pump delivery is maximum when the ovals are in line with each other and a minimum when they have been rotated by the member 80, out of phase with each other. Upon further rotation of the member 80 the direction of flow through the working chambers is reversed. Slots 76 in the disc 62, allow free communication between the working chambers. The inlet 12, leads through a cored passage 28 to ports 30, 32 and further ports 34 in the end wall of the working chamber. The outlet 14 is connected with the working chamber by passages 36, 38, 40 and ports 42. Each bush 50 has arcuate ports diametrically arranged, which register with the ports 34, 42 in the casing 10, and corresponding ports in the head 18. To allow fluid under pressure to force the vanes outwards, passages 92 lead to the inner ends of the slots. Leakage fluid passes to a drain 98 leading to the pump inlet. The member 80 and a dummy plug 90 may be interchanged. A snap ring 84 and a seal 86 are provided. The working-chamber bore may be an ellipse. Specification 395 693 is referred to.
