Abstract

690,528. Rotary pumps and engines. KLATTE, T. (trading as KLATTE, T. [Firm of]). May 29, 1951 [Oct. 15, 1948], No. 12594/51. Class 110(ii) [Also in Group XXIX] A pump of the n and n+ 1 lobe type has an outer ring 8, driven by the toothed rotor 5 which is mounted in a bush 10 in which the ring runs with a large clearance to allow free rotation. To vary the pump capacity, the bush 10, which is eccentric to the rotor, is rotated by means of an external handle to vary the amount of liquid flowing back from a delivery port 14 to a suction port 13 between the toothed rotors. When the bush 10 is rotated the centre of the ring 8 moves along an arc of a circle. With 90 degrees rotation of the bush, no liquid is pumped; for 180 degrees rotation the liquid flow through the pump is reversed. Fig. 5 shows another method of regulating the pump capacity by means of axial displacement of the toothed rotor 17 relatively to the outer toothed ring 28. This is effected through a coupling 18 under control of a lever 19. The two ends of the rotor 17 are sealed by rings 20, 21. Sealing is provided by means of rubber packing 27 and an end ring 21. Inlet and outlet ports connect with grooves 22, 23 through the sealing ring 20 by way of bores 24, 25. The ring 20 rotates in a housing 26. Chambers 29, 30, are connected to the suction side of the pump and a space 31 to the delivery side to balance axial loads on the rotor. In a hydraulic system the pump supplies an engine of a similar type, the pump delivery having a bypass valve which opens under excessive delivery pressure.
