646,407. Rotary pumps and engines. ORR, H. C. H. June 24, 1948, No. 17005. [Class 110(ii)] A rotor F, on a shaft G, is coupled to an outer eccentric rotor D by means of vanes H which pivot in the outer rotor and pivot and slide in cylindrical parts J carried by the rotor. End plates E are secured to the rotor D by screws E<SP>1</SP>, and four pins E<SP>2</SP> extend betweent the plates E, passing through holes F', to transmit the drive from the inner to the outer rotor. At any moment, at least one of the pins is exerting a driving force on the outer rotor, the holes F' being large enough to allow for the relative eccentric movements of the rotor. Each end plate E has a central hole E<SP>3</SP> to allow for eccentric movement relative to the shaft G. A stationary valve plate C contains curved ports C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> which allow communication between inlet and outlet ports in the body A and curved ports E<SP>4</SP> in the rear plate E leading to the working spaces between the vanes H. In a pump, for most of a revolution, two rotor ports 1 communicate with the stator delivery port C' and two with the delivery port C<SP>2</SP>. Relief ports E<SP>5</SP> allow outflow of liquid from a slot during the inward movement of a vane, to prevent fluid trapping. Ports C<SP>3</SP> and C<SP>4</SP>, in the plate C, communicate respectively with the delivery and suction sides of the pump so that the left-hand vane, Fig. 3, has pressure on both of its faces, the right-hand vane has suction on both its faces and the top and bottom vanes have pressure on one face, and suction on the other. The pump unit may be detached from the body by removing screws B<SP>2</SP>. The inlet and delivery pipe sockets are above the level of the working ports of the pump so that, when stopped, the pump remains full of liquid and needs no priming. Drain plugs K are provided. The pump may be reversed in direction, the valve plate C being removed and turned through 180 degrees. Wear may be allowed for by insertion of packing between the plate C and the body A, or fitting a thicker valve plate. Parts of the pump may be made of plastic material.
