[Class 110 (ii)] An eccentric piston 8b, on a shaft 7, contacts two parts 9b which reciprocate in the plane of rotation of the eccentric, and, when used for pumping, Fig. 2, fluid flows into the chamber formed by the parts 9b, and side walls through valve means, from suction chamber 2. Inlet ports 10, 12, and delivery ports 11, 13 leading to the surrounding pressure chamber 1, are controlled by the parts 9b which slide against a plate 3a under pressure of.springs 18, which bear on guides 16, these sliding on fixed walls 14a, 14b. A number of pumps, on one shaft, may be arranged in one chamber 1, and may be submerged in liquid, which seals, cools and lubricates the parts of the pumps. The chamber 1 has packing glands for the shaft 7 and inlet and outlet ports 4, 5. The parts 9b may be formed of flexible material such as rubber, provided with metal stiffeners in the sides, and a rubbing plate of plastic material. The plate 3a may have its position varied manually, or automatically. End circles 22a, cut in the walls of the chamber 1, permit positioning of the multi-piston rotor. The inner edges of the parts 9b, away from the plate 3a, may be chamferred to facilitate assembly of the piston. The springs 18 may press against separate blocks, each having a tapered bearing surface co-acting with a tapered surface on the part 9b. In Fig. 10 each piston 8 has one or more recesses 29 which, at the inner end of the piston stroke co-operate with recesses 28 to correct the working chamber with the delivery chamber. Alternatively, automatic discharge valves may be used. Fig. 15 shows a doubleacting pump with inlet and discharge ports at each end. Each displacement chamber, formed by the parts 9b, may oscillate along a curved path.
