Abstract
610,428. Reciprocating pumps for liquids. CHANNING, C. E., and BEECHAM, A. R. April 4, 1946, No. 10501. [Classes 8 (i) and 102 (i)] A reciprocating pump comprises a casing 10 enclosing a chamber of cylindrical form containing, in the thickness of its walls, cylinders 21, in aligned pairs and containing doubleheaded pistons 27 with bucket valves 32 in each head. The cylinders are closed by plugs 24 containing non-return delivery valves 25 leading to delivery ducts 23 in end covers 12, 13 and so to an outlet connection 15. The pistons 27 are cut away and thereby form ducts which connect at one end with passages 35 in the pistons and so to the valves 32, and at the other end with passages 39 through a rotatable piston-actuating member 16 mounted in the end walls on a driving shaft 17 and shaft 18, the outer periphery of the actuating member bearing on the cut-away portions of the pistons 27. A passage 38 through the shaft 18 connects the passages 39 with the intake connection 14 in the cover 13. Balls 30 partly sunk in the pistons 27 co-operate with an endless groove 31 in the actuating member 16 to reciprocate the pistons. Delivery may be varied by changing the actuating member 16 for one having a groove of different inclination.
