Abstract
675,160. Liquid-pressure engines. SUNDSTRAND MACHINE TOOL CO. Dec. 1, 1950 [Dec. 10, 1949], No. 29457/50. Class 69 (ii) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a swash plate motor, the cylinders 13 open into a recess in the end of the body 12 that is enclosed by the cover 11 and in the chamber 23 so formed is a circular valve 18 formed with a rim 48 and a hub 47 that is mounted on an eccentric pin 51 carried by the shaft 52. The faces of the rim 48 engage the walls 24, 25 of the recess and openings 55 in the rim, upon operation, connect the cylinder ports with ports 20 in the cover 11; several ports 20 are connected by slots 62 to a discharge groove 60 and the separate outlet grooves are separated by packing 61. The passage 19 forms the supply of the motor and liquid passes through openings 49 in the valve to the cylinder ports when they are uncovered by the inner edge of the rim 48. The openings in the rim comprise two holes 56 for each cylinder port and two smaller holes 57 for each hole 56, alternate holes 57 intersecting and opening into a larger hole 56. A groove 50 is formed in the face 25 so that the liquid pressure can press the valve rim against the face 24. The swash plate 33 is connected by a pin 30 to the driving shaft, the axis of the pin being eccentric to the axis of the driving shaft and outside the plane of the swash plate so that the swash plate tends to take up a position in which the pistons have a maximum stroke. The stroke is limited by ring 36 that engages the swash plate and is loaded by springs 34 the pressure of which is adjusted by a piston 38 subjected to fluid pressure under the control of valve 42.
