Abstract

[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] In a compressor or pump of the sliding- rotating piston type, two or more conchoidalshaped cylinders in line have their pistons angularly displaced for balancing purposes. Each piston is hollow and mounted on an eccentric f<SP>1</SP> keyed to a driving shaft A, which rotates at twice the speed of the piston. Gas enters axially through ports B<SP>2</SP> and is discharged past plate, or other type, valves H. To secure reversibility, inlet and outlet ports may be duplicated, plate valve means being used to blank off ports not being used. Another variation of ports may be used so that the machine acts as a twostage compressor. Lubricating oil contained in end chambers D passes along passage ways in the shaft A to the interior of each piston. Oil is also contained in a chamber B<SP>3</SP>. Packing plates f are prevented from rubbing too heavily on the casing bores, by (a) serrations on each plate being gripped by flexible material f<SP>3</SP> (b) springs bearing on the bases of the plates (c) compressed fluid acting along passages leading to the upper and lower sides of piston heads on the plates. Each piston is divided into two parts which are pressed axially against the cylinder end walls by springs. Packing rings f<SP>6</SP> are also provided.
