Abstract

247,402. Kleinhans, P. Aug. 16, 1924. Movable-abutment type; discharge and suction passages for pumps; working- fluid supply.-In a pump or prime mover of the intermittent - abutment type having two pairs of pistons, each piston occupies onesixth of the circumference and the path moved through by the piston is of equal length. Each disc k carrying a pair of pistons d is fixed to one of two concentric shafts e, f which carry controlling discs g. The discs g contain slots o which coact with rollers h carried by discs q on a continuouslyrotating driving or driven shaft i to form a Geneva mechanism. The discs g rotate alternately through 60‹ at a time, lugs t<1>, t<2>, s<1>, s<2> on the discs g, q, acting to hold the discs g stationary at the requisite periods. When used as a pump, the fluid is drawn in through the discs k and the pistons d, and past suction valves d<1> in the pistons; each valve spindle u projects through the piston so that the pressure in the adjacent chamber helps to open the valve. Delivery valves b are provided in the pump cylinder. When used as internal-combustion motor, the suction-valve spindles u do not pass right through the pistons, while spring-pressed camactuated exhaust valves are provided.
