Abstract

Revolving-cylinder pumps. - A pump suitable for artificial silk comprises a casing 1, 2 in which are mounted two rotary barrels 4, 5 connected by bevel gearing and provided with a number of bores in which bent pistons 6 reciprocate as the barrels rotate. The barrel 5 is rotated by a driving shaft and the driven barrel 4 acts as a pump, the inlet and delivery being controlled by a ported valve plate 7 against which the rotor 4 is pressed by a spring 8. The pistons move in the barrel 4 in helicoidal curves. The timing of the pump may be regulated by displacing the valve 7 relatively to the barrel 4. In another form, the liquid is supplied to the chamber 1 and enters the bores in the barrel 4 through peripheral grooves in the pistons; the valve plate 7 has only one port for delivery. A second pump may be operated by an extension of the driving shaft.
