Abstract

1300500 Reciprocating pumps CRANE CO 8 June 1971 19439/71 Heading F1A In a hydraulically actuated diaphragm pump, the diaphragm 95 is moved on its discharge stroke by a piston 36 acting through liquid in bore 37, and on its suction stroke by a spring 100. The stroke of piston 36 is adjustable by an axially movable rod 61 engaging inclined surface 33 of crosshead 30, rod 61 being moved by rotation of threaded cap 65 with vernier-type markings. Crosshead 30 is reciprocated by cam 25 driven by worm gearing 16, 18, e.g. driven by an electric motor. An adjustable, spring-loaded pressure relief valve 78 releases excess pressure from bore 37 into reservoir 40 via passages 88, 81, 76. Leakage losses from bore 37 are made up from reservoir 40 via passage 86 ball valve 87 and passage 88. In the duplex pump arrangement shown, two crossheads 30 drive respective diaphragm pumps, cam 25 being shaped to provide non-fluctuating output to a common discharge line.
