Abstract
1,005,144. Hydraulic apparatus. P. G. RUFFHEAD (APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc.). Nov. 27, 1963, No. 46856/63. Heading F1P. A piston 30 having rods 34, 35 extending through end bearings 23 and carrying weights 36, 37 is vibrated by liquid forced into and withdrawn from cylinder spaces 32, 33 by a swash plate pump, described as of the type shown in Specification 945,602 and having pistons 10 synchronized with piston 30 and connected to the cylinder by pipes C1, C2, and the piston 30 when near the ends of its stroke uncovers a groove 51 in the cylinder wall which is connected by a port 50 to a longitudinal passage 44 in a cylinder casing 20, cross bones 48, 49 in bearings 23, a passage 43 and a pipe 53 leading to a reservoir 54 connected by a pipe to the inlet chamber 13 of the pump. The latter comprises six pistons 10 arranged in two groups of three which serve to reciprocate the column of liquid in pipes C1, C2; no delivery valves being provided. The stroke of piston 30 is varied in either direction by an automatic or manual valve 60 which may bleed off a piston or the whole of the pressure liquid in pipe C1 or C2 or both. The speed of the vibrator may be varied in one direction or the other by varying the diameters of rods 34, 35 and of the pump pistons. Two pumps may be used instead of the single unit shown.
