983,089. Reciprocating pumps. H. OTT, (trading as LEWA HERBERT OTT KOM.-GES.]. June 10, 1963 [June 19, 1962], No. 22964/63. Heading F1A. In a pump drive mechanism two pistons 1, 4 in a cylinder 3 enclose a chamber filled with hydraulic fluid and the cylinder is provided with a pressure relief valve 7. The piston 1 is driven by a crank mechanism and the piston 4 is connected to the plunger 5 of a dosing pump 6. A reservoir 9 contains make-up liquid and the stroke of the pump 6 is adjusted by means of a nut 12 on the plunger 5. In an alternative embodiment, the spaces behind the pistons 1, 4 may be vented to atmosphere, in which case the piston 4 may be spring loaded to assist its return stroke which is limited by a stop in the cylinder 3 (Fig. 1, not shown) and the dosing pump stroke is fixed. The stroke of the piston 1 is preferably greater than that of the piston 4. These pistons may also work in a stepped cylinder, or in separate cylinders hydraulically connected. Alternatively a plurality of cylinders containing two pistons may be provided driven in common by the crank, and the cylinders may be radially disposed around the crank drive.
